life as a designer trains you to be exceptional.

not because perfection is the expectation, but because objectivity, critique and accountability are built into the discipline.

you learn pretty quickly not to fall so deeply in love with your own ideas that you cant hear when they arent working. criticism isnt personal, its part of the process. you observe, test, listen, revise...and sometimes scrap the whole damn thing and start again.

because ultimately you cant design a product, service or experience that harms the person it was intended to serve and then defend it because you liked the concept.

design has an obligation to function. the things we create should delight, improve, solve, support or make someones experience meaningfully better.

and while aesthetics matter...and lord knows i love something beautiful...pretty without purpose is just decoration.

good work has to accomplish the task of the thing being made.

that part is non negotiable.
